Betting works differently across cricket's three formats

One of the most interesting aspects of cricket betting is that the sport has three distinct formats — T20, ODI and Test. Each has a different pace, strategy and type of result, so the betting markets work differently across them.

T20 is the fastest format — each team faces just 20 overs. Results come quickly, which makes live betting especially popular. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are both T20 tournaments. Cricket fans in Bangladesh, particularly viewers across Dhaka and the rest of the country, show strong interest in betting during the BPL season.

ODI gives each team 50 overs. Odds tend to shift most in the middle phase of the match, as the run rate and number of wickets directly affect the betting calculation. ODI matches are most common in ICC tournaments and bilateral series.

Test cricket is the longest format — played over five days. Betting outcomes depend on the overall flow of the series. Because a draw is possible, there are three outcomes to bet on (Team A wins, Team B wins, draw). T20 and ODI have no draw market.

Beyond Cricket

Betting on football and other sports

Besides cricket, jeta7 offers betting on football, tennis, badminton and more. Football produces quick results like T20, but one key difference is that a draw is a common outcome in football — so there are three possibilities to bet on. In limited-overs cricket formats a draw does not happen, so you choose between two outcomes.

In tennis you can bet set by set, and in badminton there are game-based or point-based markets. Each sport has its own pace and market structure — understanding that is the basis for better betting decisions. For more detail, visit the sports events page, where individual sport events and markets are covered in depth.

Cricket vs Football

  • 1 Cricket T20/ODI — two outcomes only; Test — three (including draw)
  • 2 A draw is a normal result in football, so odds are split three ways
  • 3 Cricket odds change over by over — live betting is more active
  • 4 Football has two separate betting windows — half-time and full-time
Popular Markets

7 cricket markets used most often

In cricket you can bet on far more than just the match winner. Below are seven popular markets described briefly.

Match Winner

Picking which of the two teams will win — the simplest market. Example: Team A vs Team B — if Team A wins, you win the bet.

Simplest

Toss Betting

Which team wins the toss — odds in this market are usually close to even. It is unrelated to the match result.

Quick Result

Top Batter

Which batter in a team will score the most runs. The outcome is determined by innings performance.

Skill-based

Total Runs Over/Under

Whether the total runs in the match will be above (over) or below (under) a set number — this is the totals betting market.

Numbers-based

Multi Bet

Combining multiple matches or markets into one bet — if all selections are correct, the odds multiply for a larger return. One wrong selection and the entire bet loses.

High Return

Wickets in an Innings

Whether the number of wickets to fall in an innings will be above or below a set number — this market also works on an over/under basis.

Multi Bet Example

Say you place three bets across three separate matches at once. If the odds are 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90, the combined odds are 1.60 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.47 (approximately). A ৳100 stake returns ৳547 if all three are correct. But if even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost. That is why the multi bet is known as a high-risk market.

The teams are fictional examples (Team A / Team B) — these figures are not actual odds or a guarantee of winnings.

Understanding Odds

How to read decimal, fractional and American odds

Betting sites display odds in three formats. Knowing how the same value is written across all three reduces confusion.

Format Value (Team A wins) Description
Decimal 3.00 Total return = stake × odds. ৳500 × 3.00 = ৳1,500 (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 original stake)
Fractional 2/1 ৳2 profit for every ৳1 staked. On a ৳500 bet: ৳1,000 profit + ৳500 original stake = ৳1,500 total
American (underdog) +200 The plus sign means ৳200 profit on a ৳100 stake. On ৳500: ৳1,000 profit + ৳500 = ৳1,500 total

All three above represent the same value for the same team (Team A) in the same match — only the format differs. If the bet loses, the full ৳500 is gone — no stake returned.

Odds are lower for the favourite. Example: Team B's odds to win are 1.25 in decimal, 1/4 in fractional and −400 in American format. The minus sign means you need to stake ৳400 to win ৳100. A ৳500 stake returns ৳625 (৳125 profit).

Which format is most common where?

  • Decimal — most common in Europe and Asia; the simplest to calculate
  • Fractional — British tradition; read "2/1" as "two to one"
  • American — plus (+) means underdog, minus (−) means favourite
  • All three formats carry the same value — only the presentation differs
Live Betting
In-Play

Odds change while the match is on

Live betting in cricket is distinctive — odds update immediately after every wicket or at the end of a big over. If Team A is 80 for 6 in the first innings, Team B's odds shorten because Team A is behind. These moments create new betting opportunities.

In T20, the powerplay overs are particularly important — the run rate in the first 6 overs can set the direction of the match. Odds move fastest during this period.

Decisions in live betting have to be made quickly. The situation changes ball by ball, which makes staying within your budget even more important.

Practical Advice

Some useful tips for cricket betting

Betting is a form of entertainment — treat it as leisure, not a source of income. Following jeta7's responsible gaming guidelines is important for every player.

  • 1 Set a budget first: Decide how much you will stake each session before you start. Stick to that limit whether you win or lose.
  • 2 Start with one market: The match winner market is the simplest to begin with. Move to other markets once you have more experience.
  • 3 Know the format before betting: T20 and ODI have two outcomes; Test has three. Betting on the wrong format changes the probability calculation.
  • 4 Stay careful in live betting: Odds change fast — stick to your plan rather than placing large bets on impulse.
  • 5 Keep the risk of multi bets in mind: One wrong selection and the entire multi bet loses. Use smaller stakes when placing them.
  • 6 Read the rules: Betting terms and conditions are set out in detail on the terms and conditions page — reading them once reduces confusion later.

Common Questions

Answers to cricket betting questions

T20 has only 20 overs, so results come quickly and live odds change the most. ODI is a 50-over game — odds shift when strategy changes in the middle phase. In a Test match, a lot happens over five days and a draw is a valid result. In T20 and ODI there are only two outcomes (one team wins), in Test there are three (Team A wins, Team B wins, draw).

Decimal odds of 3.00 mean a total return of ৳3 for every ৳1 bet — including the original stake. If you place a ৳500 bet and win, you get ৳500 × 3.00 = ৳1,500 (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 original stake). If the bet loses, the full ৳500 is gone. This same value is 2/1 in fractional and +200 in American format.

In live betting, odds are recalculated after every wicket. If the batting team loses wickets quickly, their odds of winning increase (meaning they become the underdog) and the bowling team's odds shorten. After a key wicket falls (such as the team's best batter getting out), the odds movement is sharpest. Bets already placed remain at their original odds — new odds apply only to new bets.

Generally, if one selection in a multi bet is voided (due to a match being abandoned or another reason), the bet is recalculated with the remaining selections. If one selection in a three-selection multi is voided, it becomes a two-selection multi. However, the specific conditions are stated in jeta7's Terms and Conditions.
